The Island
Porto Limionas
With crystal-clear, blue-green water set against a backdrop of cliffs and caves, Porto Limnionas is one of the top secluded swimming spots on the island. In a wild location down an only recently paved road, not far from the small village of Agios Leon, it is gaining in popularity each year, and in the height of summer can get crowded.
Sun-loungers can be rented from two local restaurants with terraces fronting the sea, and once in the water there is good snorkeling, along with caves and even an underwater bridge.
Porto Limionas is one of the most hidden places and maybe for this reason more beautiful and wild of the entire island.
To get there you have to pass through the mountains village of Agios Leon and from there following the signs, driving down a recently asphalted road running down to the sea and ending in a small square where you can park.
From there getting down a few steps carved in the rock, you reach a real fiord stupefying the visitor for the clearness and colours of the waters.
It is easy to imagine that in this place there are no many tourist facilities, only recently two terraces with loungers and umbrellas have been created but are not always enough for the request.
Porto Limnionas has a restaurant, parking, and lots of sunbeds with views over the bay. There isn’t really a beach as such, but at the end of the cove, there is some pebbly sand submerged under the water where you can stand. Many people choose to just jump off of the rocks and into the crystal clear Ionian Sea from here.
The cove of Porto Limnionas is firmly placed on most travellers’ itinerary when they plan a trip to Zakynthos Island. It’s perhaps most famous for the dazzling colours of the sea there and the calm, secluded waters, and it’s also great for swimming and has the beautiful Porto Limnionas Tavern. The best things to do in Porto Limnionas are in the water: swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving.
Don’t forget to bring your camera to Porto Limnionas! There are a few short paths you can hike up to get amazing photographs.
